408UL

408UL technology has proven its ability to improve the overall productivity of seismic crews operating on land, in shallow waters and transition zone environments. The entire system, including uniquely designed ground equipment, telemetry options which can address any layout requirement, networking capability and transmission telemetry redundancy, is designed to maximize productivity. The software for operations and QC is dedicated to enhance crew efficiency and lower operating costs. Seismic data can be remotely accessed from any location in the world for better and quicker evaluation and control of the quality of the data.
With network technology and multi-telemetry options, acquired data can flow through one of many user-defined paths providing operators with the most productive spread layout. The architecture of the 408UL, supported by object-oriented software, allows the system to act as a real communications network. Seismic data, commands, status and parameters flow simultaneously for real-time operations. The seismic array becomes an intelligent and totally user defined grid for routing data from the field to the recording unit. Telemetry media (cable, RF, laser, fibre optic) may be mixed throughout this network to provide users with the optimum solution to survey obstacles. Multi transverse connections can be set-up to provide redundancy and flexibility.

408UL-CM Impulsive

Control Module: Portable, 2000 channel @ 2 ms sample rate, a good choice for 2D or small 3D prospect using an impulsive source.

 

 

 

408UL-CM Vibroseis

Control Module: 2000 channel @ 2ms sample rate, for vibroseis operations, noise editing, stacking, and correlation.

 

FDU Link

Field Digitizer Unit: A single channel acquisition unit, to which the geophone string is directly connected, minimizing the analog signal path. 24 bit Sigma-Delta A/D converter, very low power, and light weight. One or more FDU’s are integrated into the cable at user defined spacing, making up a Link.

LAUL

Line Acquisition Unit, In-Line: The LAUL collects the data from the FDU, filters, re-samples and processes the data, before sending it back to the Control Module. The LAUL also commands the FDU’s to perform automatic field tests, analyzes instrument tests and provides power down the cable for the FDU. Two battery connectors are provided for uninterruptible battery changes.
A connection is provided for a line tester, or shop tester.

LAUX

Line Acquisition Unit, Cross Line: The LAUX has all the functionality of the LAUL, plus the addition of Transverse connection for to the Control Module and to other lines. The LAUX allows for multi-path and data re-routing.

HCI

Human/Computer Interface: The operator’s workstation consists of one or multiple Sun Blade 100/150’s running Solaris 8 and Sercel’s latest release. Used to control the spread, shooting, and quality control.

 

Since its introduction in 1999, Sercel's 408UL system has become the standard in the acquisition system market and the most productive system ever.

The unique operating efficiency of the 408UL is based on three main features:

I - Unique field equipment

The 408UL introduced a totally new concept in ground equipment designed to maximize productivity and reduce the weight of cables and electronics. The LINK is an integrated unit consisting of the seismic cable and numerous single channel electronics spaced at the group interval. The LINK design is user-defined and has become the most efficient handling equipment package in the industry.

II - Flexible telemetry

For complex configurations, the Seismic Areal Network is a new approach to traditional telemetry. All 408UL components become nodes on an active network and the seismic spread becomes the means of communication with the recording operations. The 408UL is a multi-media networking system (laser, radio, cable, etc.) offering practical solutions for detours and complex layouts.

III - Powerful software

To support these technological advances in telemetry, a completely new software package, called Seismic Network Software has been developed. Distributed throughout the entire Seismic Areal Network, it offers efficient single-component or multi-component 3-D or 4-D recording and can address the huge volume of data encountered in large full wave field surveys.
